Premier League to launch programme to improve quality of refereeing
According to The Athletic, the Premier League are set to launch a new programme to improve the standard of officiating in the competition.
The "Elite Referee Development Plan," as the programme is called, aims to 'completely overhaul' refereeing in England through coaching referees.
Many fans have pointed to the decreasing standart of officiating in the Premier League, with refereeing scandals now a regular fixture of the competition.
The scheme also tackles racial inequality among match officials.
No Black or Asian official has been in charge of a Premier League game for more than ten years now. The programme aims to change that by creating a diverse pool of referees from various backgrounds.
