OFFICIAL: Schalke remove Gazprom name from team shirts
Schalke 04 have moved to remove Gazprom's name and logo from their team shirts, the club announced on Thursday.
The multinational energy corporation, owned and fully controlled by the Russian state, has been working with the Bundesliga side since 2007.
Gazprom remains an official sponsor of the Champions League and UEFA are yet to make an announcement as Russia faces international sanctions after invading Ukraine.
Schalke's statement reads: "Following recent developments, we have decided to remove the logo of main sponsor GAZPROM from the club's shirts. It will be replaced by lettering reading 'Schalke 04' instead."
