'He's better than me when I was 20': Frank Lampard on Dele Alli ahead of Everton reunion
Both Frank Lampard and Dele Alli joined Everton on transfer deadline day ahead of the second part of the 2021/22 campaign.
Lampard replaced sacked manager Rafael Benitez while Alli moved from Tottenham on a free transfer after terminating his contract with the London side.
The Chelsea and England legend appears to be a huge fan of the former Spurs midfielder, judging from the comments he made on Sky Sports in 2017.
Lampard said back then: "Dele is special. He's better than me when I was 20 that's for sure. He is like a second striker. But that makes sense with the way Spurs player and the quality around the box, he needs to be up there all the time.
"He's got the knack for runs, he scores great goals, he was running into the six-yard box and too many attacking midfield players get towards the penalty spot and stop and don't go that extra mile.
"He's got that bit of leadership. You talk about Eden Hazard being probably the best player in the league, Dele is not far away. The runs he makes, when he runs behind people in the box, that's special, it's a bit of a gift and he's got that gift."
