Barca to 'save €6m' and 3 more reasons by Umtiti's contract extension benefits the club
Barcelona have extended Samuel Umtiti's contract until 2026 but on lower wages. Most fans were shocked by the news, but as reports suggest, this is hugely beneficial to the club for at least four reasons.
1. The Catalans will save over €6m thanks to Umtiti's new contract, Gerard Romero reports. (Romero initially said €50m but later corrected himself)
2. Barca can now register Ferran Torres, as confirmed by the club.
3. Now that Samuel has a lower salary, it is going to be easier for Barca to find him a new destination, Onda Cero's Alfredo Martinez claims.
4. In the new agreement, the parties have included the option for the centre-back to leave for free next summer, Cadena SER claim.
Besides, the reputable Helena Condis says that Umtiti is still open to the idea of being loaned out in January if he receives a good offer. The extension doesn't mean that Barca will not look to part ways with him.
