"Messi's Ballon d'Or? First, I congratulate Alexia Putellas [the winner of women's Ballon d'Or]. As a young lady, she already had a tremendous capacity. I'm very happy for her," Xavi has said.

"Messi's Ballon d'Or is justice. Football is fair by rewarding him. For me, Messi is the best," he also added.

Lionel Messi won his 7th Ballon d'Or on Monday. For Alexia Putellas, this was her first such prize.
