UEFA come out against biennial World Cup
UEFA have officially voiced their opposition to FIFA's idea of switching the World Cup to a biennial format.
An UEFA-commissioned study has found that holding World Cup every two years would see UEFA lose £2.6 billion over a four-year cycle.
The idea of a biennial World Cup, spearheaded by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, has been met with widespread opposition in the football world.
An official UEFA statement reads: "Top tournaments would no longer enjoy calendar exclusivity and full spotlight, with guaranteed negative impacts in terms of exposure and fans' and media interest."
