Some groups of NFF Technical Committee dissatisfied with PESEIRO’s appointment.
The appointment of Jose Peseiro as the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has sparked murmurs with the one coming from a member of the NFF Technical Committee louder than others.
The undisclosed source expressed his dismay at the NFF no going fully in on appointing a local coach to manage the side on a permanent basis as contrasted to the interim contract given to local coach Austin Eguavoen.
According to Osasu Obayiuwana the journalist who revaled the details of the conversation through his Twitter page, the source labelled NFF’s decision as not being professional and that it will be a huge distraction:
“What was the point of announcing the appointment of Peseiro now, when Eguavoen is charge of the team? And saying he will “observe” our work? This is not professional and will create a huge distraction,” the source said.
The source further showed no amazements at the decision saying it’s the way things are done in Nigeria but has expressed full confidence in Austin Eguavoen saying they will work together to ensure Austin Eguavoen delivers the Afcon title so as to prove a point to those who don’t support the idea of the local coach.
“We have a big task in Cameroon and we need to focus on this. It’s unfortunate that @thenff have done things in this way. But sadly, this is how things are done in Nigeria.”
“We want to prove a point in Cameroon, that Nigerian coaches can work together professionally and achieve the ultimate objective, which is to win the AFCON.
Nigeria recently appointed Jose Peseiro but the Portuguese will only be in Cameroon as an observer as he will begin his duties after the tournament.
The Super Eagles will be playing their first game at the tournament against Egypt on Tuesday January 11.
