D’Tigers Turn Focus On Next Year For FIBA World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria’s mean’s basketball national team, D’Tigers have turned their focus on next year for the resumption of action in the qualifiers for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, with the squad winning two out of three games they played Benguela, megasportsarena.com reports.
D’Tigers with resume action next year in high spirits, after they recorded a 95-69 victory against Uganda in their third group game of the opening stage and go into the break top of their pool, which came in spite of their shaky start to the series.
It was third time better for the former African champions, who lost their first match of the qualifiers to Cape Verde but bounced back against Mali in their second game and made the best of their final fixture.
To end the qualification series first phase, D’Tigers recorded a convincing blowout win against Uganda, as they took the first quarter 18-25 and the second quarter 19-28 going into the half-time break with a 16 point lead.
It was an even more stunning performance after the break, as D’Tigers produced a strong 8-14 third quarter and took the fourth quarter 24-28, in spite of a late surge by the Ugandans.
D’Tigers’ top performer was captain Ike Diogu with a monster 27 points and 10 rebounds double-double, while Ben Uzoh had 10 points, with Omotayo Jordan Ogundiran and Keith Omoerah both contributing 11 points. December 04, 2021 at 06:45AM
