Chelsea interested in De Ligt - 'main obstacle' for transfer revealed

As per Spanish media publication Sport, Matthias De Ligt is up for sale. The centre-back wants to leave Juventus and is ready for a new challenge in the summer.

Barcelona have been linked with the defender - Chelsea are the only other interested club named in the report.

While there is a release clause of €120m in his contract, his agent Mino Raiola has reportedly informed clubs that the transfer price will be lesser than this.

However, the 'main obstacle' in a potential transfer is his salary. According to The Guardian, the Dutchman is paid a base salary of £14.5m per season with the Serie A giants and that could rise up to £21.7m with add-ons.

Assuming these add-ons are met, De Ligt will be earning around £417,000 per week. If he is to move away then we can assume he will be demanding an even bigger package.

It will be difficult for even Chelsea to match this, considering the Blues need to upgrade or extend the deals of the likes of Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva first.

However, with Antonio Rudiger likely leaving the club, De Ligt could be one to keep an eye out on.
