Chelsea 4 Points Adrift City They Drew With Everton
Chelsea Losing Site of The Summit as they fall four points behind table toppers Manchester City after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Stamford Bridge.
The wave after wave of Chelsea attacks continued when Hakim Ziyech teed up Christian Pulisic, whose deft, back-heeled attempt went straight into Pickford’s grasp.
The ‘Toffees’’ shot-stopper made a much more impressive save to deny Mason Mount, following some lovely build-up play from the hosts, as a depleted Everton side defended resolutely to leave the score goalless at HT.
Normal service resumed in the second half, with Mount denied by Pickford once again, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek saw his header hit the roof of the net.
Everton then had Ben Godfrey to thank for a fine piece of defending to unsettle Antonio Rüdiger and force the German to head wide from a James set-piece.
That seemingly inevitable breakthrough did come in the 70th minute, courtesy of Mount, who finished superbly from an excellent through ball by James to score in four consecutive Premier League appearances.
Mount is the youngest player to achieve that feat in a Chelsea shirt at 22 years and 340 days old.
It looked like Thomas Tuchel’s men would cruise to three points from that point, but Jarrad Branthwaite had other ideas when he netted an unlikely equaliser four minutes later, brilliantly stretching to meet Anthony Gordon’s exquisite free-kick to score his first Premier League goal.
The visitors had Pickford to thank for keeping parity in the contest with another fine save, this time keeping out Thiago Silva’s bullet header.
The result means Rafael Benítez’s side have only managed one win in their last 11 PL games, but the point will give the ‘Toffees’ a much-needed morale boost and keeps them in 14th.
As for Chelsea, they remain third with 37 points, but will be left frustrated after recent wins for rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.
