Calvin Bassey Earns Encomiums From Glasgow Rangers’ Coach
Glasgow Rangers of Scotland fast-rising defender, Calvin Bassey has earned a flood of encomiums from the Scottish Premiership champions’ new coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the shower of praise on the former Liecester City of England lad comes after he excelled during Van Bronckhorst’s first two games in charge of The Gers.
First was a 2-0 win over Sparta Prague of Czech Republic in the UEFA Europa League and then this past weekend’s 3-1 spanking of Livingston in the SPL.
Dramatically, Bassey had to play out of position as a central defender in both matches, which is in contrast with his normal role at left-back.
The youngster’s performances left The Gers’ gaffer in awe and he has now hinted that Bassey could get to play permanently as centre-back, thereby putting in doubt the future of Leon Aderemi Balogun with the Ibrox club.
Indeed, another injury blight for the former Fortuna Dusseldorf, Darmstadt and SV Mainz 05 of Germany as well as Brighton and Wigan Athletic of England stopper paved way for Bassey in the first instance.
It is now left to be seen if Balogun will be able win his spot back, as Bassey’s form left many analysts singing his plaudits last weekend and The Gers’ coach has now openly expressed similar sentiments.
Van Bronckhorst told Rangers TV: “I’m very impressed because he is a talented defender.
“He normally plays in the left-back position and didn’t have much experience in the central area.
“So, I’m really happy with his performances. I think he has the physical ability to play there and we’re helping him a lot in that position.” December 01, 2021 at 02:52AM
