The 40-year-old has decided to step away from his coaching role at Old Trafford after the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager.
John Murtough said: "Michael leaves with the sincerest thanks and best wishes of everyone after 15 years of exceptional service to the club as a player and as a coach."
Murtough has also clarified that Carrick himself had made the decision to leave the club, stating that while Man United are 'sad to see him go', they 'respect and understand' his decision.
