Anderlecht manager Kompany accuses Club Brugge fans of racism

Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany has accused Club Brugge fans of constantly racially abusing his players during the two side’s 2-2 draw on Sunday.

He said after the match: “I'm devastated. I'm going home routed anyway. We were called out for 'brown monkeys' and whatever else during the whole match.

“Those are things I have a hard time with. It's always okay to say something funny, but there are a lot of people here who have given a lot for this country. They just come here to play football.

“I don't want to end up in a conflict, but I just feel this way. I just want to go home. Rest and spend time with the people who are important to me.”

However, Club Brugge’s manager Philippe Clement insisted that he did not hear any racist comments, adding: “But I want to be very clear: if someone said something like that, it is not what this club stands for. We also have a great diversity in our core and among our supporters.”

The Belgian Football Association are yet to make a comment on Kompany’s shocking revelations. The former Man City defender’s Anderlecht side are currently 4th in the Belgian First Division, 11 points away from the top of the table.
