Gernot Rohr Roars: It Is Important for Us to Beat Cape Verde
Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has come out with an emphatic ‘roar’ that it is important for his sdie to get victory over Cape Verde in order to cement they place in the knockout and final stage of the African qualifiers for World Cup 2022.
Heading into the last match of Group C at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, the Franco-German tactician pointed out that victory is ultimate, because that would confirm Nigeria’s status among Africa’s top football playing nations.
He added that his players must ensure they score early and take all the chances that come their way, in order to avoid coming under undue pressure from their visitors, who he admitted will be all out to play the role of usurpers.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the former Burkina Faso, Gabon and Niger Republic coach added that they aim to get a double over the side from Cape Verde’s Blue Sharks, who lost 1-2 to the Eagles on their own soil two months ago.
The former defender of Bayern Munich of Germany, who also coached Girondins-Bordeaux of France in the early says of his career as a tactician, will be in charge of his 54th game for the Eagles.
He expressed confidence that the three-time African champions will collect all three points from The Sharks, just as they did on 7th September, when both teams met at Estadio Municipal Adérito Sena on the island of Mindelo in Cape Verde.
“We have a job on our hands and that is to win. It is important to win so as to be sure of where you will be at the end of the day.
“They are the ones with the big pressure to come out and look for a win. Our approach will be to win. The players are looking forward to doing that.
“I really don’t think we are under any pressure. We have 12 points, two more than the opponents.
“We are top of the table now and a win keeps us there and sends us to the final knockout round,” Rohr concluded.
