France Football boss reveals what Cristiano told him about Messi in private conversation
France Football’s editor-in-chief Pascal Ferre - who awards the Ballon d'Or winners - has opened up on Cristiano Ronaldo’s greatest ambition before retiring from football.
He told the New York Times: “Ronaldo has only one ambition and that is to retire with more Ballon d'Or [awards] than Messi.
“I know because he has told me.”
Currently, Ronaldo had won 5 Ballon d’Or awards in his career. It’s one short of the 6 Ballon d’Or awards won by Lionel Messi – with competition between the two greats being very tight.
However, Messi might gain a vital lead on Monday if he’s able to win another Ballon d’Or award.
For now, Messi is a favorite to win his 7th Ballon d’Or – which would put him significantly clear of Ronaldo as the two players reach the finish lines in their iconic careers.
