Chukwubuike Adamu Debuts for Austria’s Senior National Team
Red Bull Salzburg of Austria youngster, Chukwubuike Adamu has followed the footsteps of Real Madrid of Spain left-back, David Olatokunbo Alaba in starring for the Rhine nation.
Adamu also follows suit with SV Mainz 05 of Germany striker, Karim Onisiwo as the latest Nigerian-born player to commit his international future to Austria’s senior national team and went on to feature in his first competitive match at the weekend.
e360hubs.com reports that this means Nigeria can no longer call on Adamu, who received his first call-up by Austria based on his fine start to the current league campaign.
He already has four goals to his name, so soon after his promotion to Salzburg’s first team, and made his international debut as an 89th minute substitute in place of Bologna of Italy forward, Marko Arnautović
A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added: “Adamu made his competitive debut for Austria’s senior national team in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Israel on Friday, November 12, aged 20 years and 159 days.
“The 20-year-old cannot request for a change of association to Nigeria should he play three more matches for the Austrians before turning 21.
“Born in Kano, a state in Northern Nigeria, the striker previously earned caps for Austria at U18, U19 and U21 levels prior to his senior debut.
“Adamu was one of three players of Nigerian parentage picked by manager Franco Foda in Austria’s matchday 23 against Israel, the others being Real Madrid star David Alaba and Mainz 05 striker Karim Onisiwo.”
