According to Mundo Deportivo, a reliable source, Barcelona have started negotiations over Gavi's new contract with his agent.
The Catalans want to increase the midfielder's wage and extend the deal that currently expires in 2023.
The Catalans also want to extend Gavi's release clause. It currently stands at just €50m and is too low for a player of his calibre. Many clubs including Chelsea are interested in the youngster.
More meetings will follow and it's still 'a long way to go' before the parties reach a total agreement.
However, it is expected that the 17-year-old will sign a new deal with Barcelona as he wants to stay at Camp Nou.
