Neymar discuss 2014 World Cup injury that almost got him paralysed
Neymar reveals he almost got paralysed in 2014 World Cup
"It [the 2014 injury] was one of the worst moments of my career. It ruined my dream of playing the World Cup, of playing the semi-final, the final," Neymar has told DAZN.
"When I hurt my back, Marcelo tried to help me get up but he couldn't. I was trying to move my legs but I couldn't, I didn't have the strength to get up. I said: 'I can't, I don't feel anything'. And they took me to the infirmary.
"There were 2 minutes left [in the Colombia game] and I remember that my leg was bent and the doctors stretched it out for me. I was in shock. I couldn't move my feet and I couldn't stop crying.
"The doctor told me: 'The bad news is your World Cup is over'. I burst into tears, saying: 'What's the good news then?' He said: 'The good thing is that if it went two centimetres to the side, you wouldn’t walk anymore.'"
Neymar played 5 games at the 2014 World Cup, scoring 4 goals and recording one assist. He picked up a serious injury at the end of the quarter-final game against Colombia.
Without their talisman, Brazil suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany on home soil.
In the same interview, Neymar also revealed that the 2022 World Cup might be his last one.
