Karim Benzema set to go on trial over Valbuena sextape case
Karim Benzema's trial over the Frenchman's involvement in the Mathieu Valbuena sextape scandal is set to start on Wednesday, according to France24.
The Real Madrid striker is accused of helping a group of alleged blackmailers to extort money from his international teammate Valbuena back in 2015.
The resulting scandal ended in Benzema being banished from the France national team, although manager Didier Deschamps brought him back in 2021.
As per France24, the maximum sentence for complicity in attempted blackmail in France's criminal justice system is 'five years in prison and a fine of €70,000'.
