EPL: Why Bruno Fernandes threatened to leave Man Utd
According to The Athletic, Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes vowed to leave the club if they joined 11 other clubs in signing up for the projected European Super League.
Fernandes joined United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and has quickly established himself as one of the team's most vital players.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, were one mistake away from losing the Portugal international.
Another United player, Luke Shaw, came out against the club's plan to join the breakaway tournament in April.
The club's engagement in the contentious league was believed to enrage Fernandes and Shaw, who took serious steps to ensure the United management understood their position.
The duo are said to have questioned Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward about the club's participation and chastised him for treating the players like "children" and "assets."
Fernandes reportedly vowed to leave the club if they went ahead with their intentions in order to make his position known.
