Chelsea receives a double makeover ahead of their Champions League clash with Malmo.
Chelsea's defensive options have been bolstered by the additions of Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger ahead of their Champions League match against Malmo on Wednesday.
The centre-backs were both back in training on Monday after missing Saturday's 1-0 Premier League win against Brentford. Silva, an experienced centre-back, returned from Brazil on Friday afternoon, giving the 37-year-old with little time to prepare for the Brentford trip.
Rudiger, who was on national team duty with Germany, suffered a slight back injury and was forced to miss the Blues' hard-fought victory on the road.
Edouard Mendy of Senegal made a streak of five saves against the Bees in a crucial performance that helped Chelsea return to the top of the Premier League.
Andreas Christensen, a defender for the Blues, has praised the goalkeeper's outstanding performance.
"On Saturday, he demonstrated that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, not just the Premier League," Christensen told Chelsea's official website.
He is an excellent goalkeeper. You can see how vital he is to the team and to us. Once again, we are fortunate to have him.
"People can see and recognize what he is capable of and the level of quality he possesses.
"It's difficult to observe him every day because you don't see how he works."
We're just glad he's here. When he first arrived, he was a confident goalkeeper.
"He's a tremendously lovely, confident man off the field and a very vocal player on the field." He is always attempting to assist us."
Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen, and Antonio Rudiger make up Chelsea's solid backline. Trevor Chalobah and Cesar Azpilicueta can also play at centre-back.
