Bayern Munich 4 - 0 Hoffenheim: Bayern Serge to victory against Kraichgauer
Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga away record now stands at one win in 13 outings as they were defeated 4-0 by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Bayern’s 29 goals in their first eight Bundesliga matches of the campaign is a new record, and it was therefore no surprise to see them put Hoffenheim under pressure early on. Serge Gnabry thought he had opened the scoring, only to be denied by VAR, but he had to wait just a matter of minutes for his goal, finishing a free-flowing move by firing between Oliver Baumann’s legs.
The reigning Bundesliga champions were not at their most destructive, but when you have Robert Lewandowski at your disposal, it doesn’t really matter. The Poland international doubled his side’s lead on the half-hour mark, deliciously curling beyond Baumann from outside the area. Hoffenheim, to their credit, tried to cause their opponents problems, but it was a comfortable opening 45 minutes for Manuel Neuer.
The ‘Kraichgauer’ started the second half well and may have found themselves back in the game had Ilhas Bebou’s well-hit volley been better placed. Having played in the UEFA Champions League in midweek and with a trip to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Pokal to come on Tuesday, Bayern appeared to be conserving energy.
That didn’t stop them extending their lead, albeit rather fortuitously when a Hoffenheim clearance bounced off Dayot Upamecano and into the path of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who made no mistake from close range. That effectively ended the clash as a contest, and Kingsley Coman put the icing on the Bayern cake to net his first goal of the season.
After their 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in their previous home match, this was very much business as usual for the Bavarians. They remain top of the Bundesliga, while Hoffenheim sit 10th. Sebastian Hoeneß, though, can take some positives from this clash against one of the best sides in the world.
