Top 5 Biggest La Liga summer spenders in 2021 revealed: Barca missing
The 2021 summer window is over, and Tribuna.com takes a look at the numbers behind it.
As Barcelona are in financial dire straights, we knew even before the window the Catalans would not be the biggest spenders in the country.
And as it turns out, Atletico Madrid are top of the expenditure table, having added Cunha and De Paul to their squad.
Their capture of Griezmann (€40m) is not reflected in the records because it is a loan deal with an obligation to buy, and they have not paid the money to Barca yet.
Villarreal splashed the cash to bring in new faces, landing winger Arnaut Danjuma, defender Juan Foyth, striker Boulaye Dia and midfielder Manu Morlanes for a total of €54.5m.
Real Madrid were ready to break the bank on Mbappe, but as it didn't happen, the moves for Camavinga (€31m) and Alaba (free) remained their only deals in the market.
Sevilla were also quite active in the market, investing €38.5m to sign striker Rafa Mir, full-backs Gonzalo Montiel and Ludwig Augustinsson, and midfielder Thomas Delaney.
Meanwhile, Barcelona focused on free agents such as Aguero, Memphis and Garcia. They only spent money on youngster Yusuf Demir and full-back Emerson, who was subsequently sold to Tottenham for profit.
