"It was a competitive game, we tried our best, and it wasn't easy, we knew that before the game. Villarreal play well with the ball, we tried to press higher, we did that better in the second half," Carlo Ancelotti said after the match, as quoted by Diario AS.

"It's a draw and we have to move on. I'm not sad because the team fought, they tried to do what was necessary to get the win.

"It is not a step back, it is a step forward because we remain the league leaders and that is good."

Real Madrid have played seven league matches this season so far, winning five and drawing two. The Whites currently sit in the first spot with 17 points.
