Breakdown on How Man United re-signed Ronaldo in less than 24 hours
If you've been wondering how Manchester United pulled off one of the biggest transfer coups in recent history, we're here with answers!
A detailed report by the reliable Samuel Luckhurst has revealed how things unfolded by the minute on a fateful 27 August:
The Morning
A source messaged Luckhurst in the morning saying Ronaldo to Manchester City was 'gathering pace'.
This led to massive unrest among fans, who were shocked at the thought of Cristiano donning the blue shirt of Manchester.
At half-past 11, another source informed Luckhurst about United working on a 'possible move' to hijack the transfer. Of course, we've always heard about the odd Ronaldo rumour now and then but this time, it was different.
With just 10 minutes to go before noon, an agency contact confirmed that the Red Devils are involved in negotiations with Jorge Mendes.
The Afternoon
At 1.15pm, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was scheduled to conduct his pre-match press conference for Wolves.
As expected, reporters only wanted to know if United are signing Ronaldo. Solskjaer initially tried to dodge questions but then said: "We've always had a good communication with Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Bruno Fernandes has been talking to him and he knows what we feel about him. And if he was ever gonna move away from Juventus, he knows we're here. Cristiano is a legend of this club, I think he's the greatest player of all time if you ask me. I was fortunate enough to play with him.
"I coached him when I got my job. Let's see what happens now. Everyone who has played with Ronaldo has a soft spot for him."
It's not unusual for the Norwegian boss to give cryptic responses but his reaction during the press conference suggested something was up.
And then at 2pm, a contact confirmed to Luckhurst that Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken to Ronaldo in the morning.
Now, around the same time, Manchester City dropped out of negotiations for Ronaldo. The MEN claims that it was Ronaldo who ended all talks as soon as he learned about United's interest in bringing him back.
An hour later, sources within the club confirmed that Ronaldo was to undergo his medical in Lisbon.
The Evening
At half-past four, a source revealed that Ronaldo has been offered a two-year contract worth £480,000-a-week. And United will pay Juventus a fee of around £23 million.
And hardly 20 minutes later, the official club account on Twitter made the stunning declaration that we've reached an agreement to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
The jubilation and celebrations exploded across the world as fans were delighted that their hero is coming back.
As a 'family club', it's fitting that club legends (Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra) along with Bruno and Sir Alex all reunited to get the 'prodigal son' back to the Theatre of Dreams.
