Disagreement Ensues Between Solskjaer And Maguire After West Brom Draw

Manchester United got only a point against West Brom, with Harry Maguire left frustrated by two pivotal decisions made by referee Craig Pawson.

Albion striker Mbaye Diagne climbed above Victor Lindelof to give them the lead after 90 seconds.

The United defenders protested the decision, with Maguire believing it should have been ruled out.

“We created a lot of chances, we created enough to win the game,” he told Sky Sports.

“Obviously made it tough for ourselves conceding the goal which, for me, it’s a foul. “Then obviously at the end we huffed and puffed and it’s a great save by Sam (Johnstone) to be fair.

“It’s disappointing to come away with a point. We felt that we deserved more.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer however, was less disturbed by referee Craig Pawson’s view of Diagne’s goal – instead calling for more consistency across the league.

“As an ex-striker, I’d say that was a goal,” he said on the decision. “But in a recent game Harry [Maguire] got on top of a defender and that was no goal. It’s just clarity and consistency. I’m not saying that’s a foul.”

The centre-back thought he had earned his side a second-half penalty, only for Pawson to change his initial decision after consulting with VAR officials.

“I was so certain it was a penalty,” he explained. “I don’t understand why he’s been sent to the monitor to even check it.

“I’m goal side of the defender, I feel a touch on my shoulder, he’s pulling me back and then I feel actually a little clip on my heels as well.

“It was minimal but it’s a penalty, especially after the referee points to the penalty spot you think there’s no chance it’s getting overturned.

“I was so confident that it was going to be given as a penalty but it seems like the decisions at the moment are going against us.”
