FIFA Cancel Atletico Madrid Defender Kieran Trippier 10-Week Ban
FIFA has suspended Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier’s 10-week ban for breaking gambling regulations, pending an appeal.
Trippier was his with the punishment, along with a £70,000 fine, by the FA last week in relation to four betting breaches around the time of his move from Tottenham to Atletico in 2019.
The England international has always insisted that he did not place any bets or profit from bets placed by others.
Atletico were left furious by the ban, which would have seen Trippier miss 13 LaLiga and Champions League games between now and the end of February, but none for England.
However, the Spanish outfit now say they have been given permission by Fifa to continue selecting the 30-year-old while they appeal against the ban, possibly taking the case as high as the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Trippier has already missed the 1-0 win over Getafe at the end of last month and is not in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Alaves but could return against third tier Cornella in the Copa del Rey next week.
