Real Madrid female goalkeeper opens up on death threats and abuse from Atleti fans

Real Madrid Femeni's goalkeeper Sara Ezquerro revealed to HBO's A Real Dream documentary how he was suffering from the Atletico Madrid fans at the early days of her playing career.

She said: "I'm a Madridista to the core. I was at the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid when we won the Undecima in 2016. I was playing for Atleti B but I was wearing the green Iker Casillas' goalkeeper shirt back then."

Blancos won 6-4 on penalties and Ezquerro's photo went viral. The next days became a true nightmare for a young goalkeeper who was only 17 back then.

"The next day, I saw more than 100 notifications. I received 100 messages in 20 minutes. Some were like: 'I hope we'll see you in the street and rape you, I hope I can find out where you live so I can go and kill you'. I was having an anxiety attack!"

Ezquerro added that she was unable to leave her house for a while and eventually Atletico released her.

Thankfully, everything went well for Sara: she signed for CD Tacon which got later rebranded as Real Madrid's women's football club.
