West Ham 1-1 Man City: Player Ratings As Poor Ratings Rock Guardiola’s Men
Michail Antonio put West Ham in front in the first half with a fine finish, before Manchester City half-time substitute Phil Foden struck early in the second period – however, neither side could claim victory.
Below are player ratings from the London Stadium.
West Ham
Lukasz Fabianski 7 – Brilliant 86th-minute save to deny Sterling in a one-on-one and Mahrez after.
Vladimir Coufal 7 – Quick reactions to nip in and stop Dias profiting from Gundogan’s superb ball into the box. Superb assist for Antonio.
Fabien Balbuena 6 – Not onto the scene quickly enough as Foden makes himself the Manchester City hero.
Angelo Ogbonna 6 – Far too slow to react as substitute Foden steadies himself from Cancelo’s pass and scores.
Aaron Cresswell 6 – Super cross soon after Antonio’s goal from which Fornals should have made it 2-0.
Arthur Masuaku 5 – Poor decisions in the second half – one of which could have led to Sterling scoring the winner.
Jared Bowen 6 – Good industry in the first half and big shoes to fill stepping in for Antonio. Too big.
Tomas Soucek 8 – Escaped a hand-ball shout in the build up for Antonio’s goal. Overall did well.
Declan Rice 9 MOTM – The dropped points do not detract from a fine performance from the England midfieler.
Pablo Fornals 6 – Should have done better with his header from Cresswell’s first half cross into the box.
Michail Antonio 8 – Magnificent goal. Truly top class volley to leave City stunned and give West Ham the lead. Third of the season.
SUBS: Yarmolenko 6 (Antonio, 51), Haller 4 (Bowen, 68)
Man City
Ederson 6 – It needed something special to beat him on his 150th appearance and Antonio provided it.
Kyle Walker 6 – Good deliveries overall and did well to react in difficult moments defensively.
Rúben Dias 7 – Snuffed out by Coufal when he should have converted from Gundogan’s fine 14th-minute pass. But did well overall.
Eric García 7 – Brilliant 23rd-minute defending to keep pace with Antonio and get to the ball to prevent a second.
Jose Cancelo 8 – Tasty 24th minute ball from which Mahrez should have scored. Fine assist for Foden goal.
Bernardo Silva 7 – Quick feet in the box midway through the first half but unable to unsettle the Hammers defence.
Rodri 6 – Solid in midfield but outshone by the excellent Declan Rice who dominated throughout.
Ilkay Gündogan 6 – Fine 14th minute ball from which Dias should have scored. But ref Anthony Taylor clearly forgot to book him for his first half shirt-pull on Rice.
Riyad Mahrez 6 – Slow to react when he could have stuck Cancelo’s first-half ball away.
Sergio Agüero 5 – Wanted it to feet far too much in the first half. A shadow of his deadly self.
Raheem Sterling 6 – Most of his moves covered by Coufal. But gifted a late opening which he blew.
