Olivier Giroud is set to stay at Chelsea despite reports in Italy suggesting that the striker has agreed a two-year contract with Juventus, according to Simon Johnson of The Athletic.
Amid reports from Italy about a 2-year contract being agreed with Juventus last night, sources have told me Olivier Giroud is staying at #CFC & camp are not in contact with Serie A side. On Thursday, Sky Italia, a pretty reliable Italian source, claimed that Juve turned their attention to the Frenchman after suffering setbacks in their attempts to land Edin Dzeko and Luis Suarez.
On the contrary. Johnson, who is much more trustworthy, says that Giroud's camp hasn't even contacted the Serie A champions as the 33-year-old accepts his role at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea indeed want to offload some fringe players in this transfer window but Olivier is not among them, adds The Athletic's journalist.
As for Giroud's fears for his playing time ahead of next year's Euros, the should "be plenty of matches" for him as Chelsea's new boy Timo Werner hasn't really played as a sole striker in his senior career, says Johnson.
