Tottenham Set To Battle Chelsea For Ajax Shot-Stopper Signature
Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana is said to be ready to end his spell in the Netherlands for a move to the Premier League this summer.
Chelsea and Tottenham have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old shot-stopper while Spanish heavyweights Barcelona are also trying to re-sign their former youth player.
The 16-cap Cameroonian international started his footballing education at the Samuel Eto'o foundation in his homeland before joining Barcelona's youth system in 2010.
Onana spent five years at La Masia but lack of first-team opportunities prompted him to move across the continent to join Ajax back in 2015.
After impressing for the reserve team in the Dutch second-tier, the shot-stopper eventually made his senior breakthrough in the Eredivisie during the 2016-17 campaign and he hasn't looked back since then.
The 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength at Ajax and was instrumental as Erik ten Hag's side made it all the way through to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League last term.
The Cameroonian international's overall record at Ajax looks very impressive, indeed. Onana has shipped 151 goals in 171 games for the Dutch giants, keeping 72 clean sheets in the process, and his tender years mean that he is only going to get better with time.
In fact, the Ajax star was a nominee for the best goalkeeper award at this year's Ballon d'Or.
Tottenham have lined him up as a replacement for Hugo Lloris but it is understood that Stamford Bridge is Onana's preferred destination in London, with Kepa Arrizabalaga facing an uncertain future.
The 23-year-old has a contract with Ajax until the summer of 2022 but it has been reported that a fee in the region of £40-50 million would be enough to complete a deal.
The Blues have also been linked with Nick Pope, Vicente Guaita and Mike Maignan as other potential replacements for under-fire Kepa.
